Text to Give uses an easy Conversational Format
This article provides examples for how the system uses simplified conversational text with donors who want to Text to Give.
The interactive system uses a very basic, easy to use, conversational format. Donors do not have to remember any special words, dollar signs, codes or special phrasing while texting because the system will try to identify what the user needs to know, and prompt the donor for what the system needs to know for a donor to successfully give a gift. The donor can Restart the conversation at any time.
The system prompts the donor to provide the information it needs. As an example, the system will ask which payment method the donor wants to use if there are multiple payment methods, and will ask the donor to select choice A. Visa or B. Checking. The donor must then select one provided choice of either A or B. In this example, if the donor simply responds with Visa or Checking they will receive a message that it is not a valid option. The donor must follow the prompt and respond with either A or B.
If the donor only texts the word give, the system will ask "To which fund do you wish to give?" If the donor types in a fund code that does not exist, the system will let them know and prompt them to make a selection to clarify. "Sorry, that is not a valid fund. Please select from the following funds." The system will provide a list of fund codes and ask, “To which fund do you wish to give?” If the donor recognized, for instance, the Youth Fund, they could text Youth back to continue. The system would locate that fund and ask how much the donor desires to give. The donor can text 25 and the system understands. The system then thanks the donor and sends a message confirming the particular details including a receipt number.
